well so far on this build i have been doing good. Last night was just a night that i would like to erase.
I have got all of my piston rings gapped, rings on pistons, Pistons on rods, ummmm, 3/8 rubber hose to go on rod bolts, bearings in line. Ring compressor ready, cleaned the bore and ready to go.
I started to take the rod cap off to slide the piston in the motor and could not get it off. i was like what the ***** is going on here. I messed with one for a very long time. So then i quit to prvent me from messing something up. I took the pistons off the rods. Pistons back in the box, rods in the box and off to the machine shop today.
What could be the problem? I had new ARP rod bolts pressed in. Could they be pressed in, but not lined up correctly?
And on the ARP rod bolts when you install the rod caps are the kind of pressed on by the nuts *** you tighten them done?
If so how would i plastigauge them? because i would not be able to get the rod caps off
Well Some I have had good luck with a rubber mallet....and some, when I send the rods out to be straightened and resized, and the caps fit really tight..I just have to go by the machine shop word and work...and have them leave the caps off..and bolt em together and hope the shop did there job right?
These bolts were trqd really tight when i went to take them off. (So tight that i had to clamp the rod in a vise (with a 1X4 on each side so that i would not damage them and then a ratchet to break the bolts loose.
I beat the living hell out of one rod with a rubber hammer. I got the cap jammed on the bolts. I workeed to get that loose. Then i just gave up. figured it would be faster if the had some kind of a puller they could use.
how about the plastigauge. how would i go about that to measure the clearance because if they are going to be that tight going on it will be a headace trying to get them back off once they have been bolted to the crank
some times a plastic tipped hammer works a little better than the rubber mallet, I usually leave the nuts on the end of the bolts, hold the cap and tap the nuts with the hammer, sometimes they are a fight for sure but come loose adventualy

thats how i got it jammed. Then the fight was on trying to get it back straight
