On my 56, while preping the cab for stripping I looked down in the defroster vent in front of the steering wheel and noticed that the plenum didn't match up with the hole in the dash. The hole as a slight curve that follows the curve of the windshield and the plenum has a slight curve in the other direction, in other words one looks like this ( and the other looks like ). If I turn it around the curves match up but the input pipe then faces the drivers side of the cab not the center of the cab toward the heater. Is this the way it supposed to go or do I have two right side plenums in my truck? The ones on the passenger side looks correct. Can someone look at theirs and tell me which is correct. Thanks
I had the same problem. On mine, it was just a question of bending the tabs at the end to get the plenum to better approximate the dash shape. There is still some gap, but it works fine.
BTW, if you haven't taken it apart yet, put some PB Blaster or other lube on the nuts/studs before you start cranking them off. I didn't and broke off one of the studs. Had to do a weld repair to reattach a stud to the plenum.
that plenum may well be for the other side, 2 of my trucks had the wrong ducts in them. I believe, that someday, someone will find all of the socks that have ever been lost in the dryer and right there with them will be 1000's of left side defroster plenums.
learpilot, you have the correct ducts. They are supposed to mount with the openings towards driver and the are both identical.
I think it makes it a little easier to installs the hose ducts in that you can put them on while evaporator is still down, due to hose length and then lift into place.
