Your best bet is going to be to play with the gun. Most paints tell you how to mix them so that's not a mystery. Depending on the gun, pressures can vary.... Get some sheet metal and some paint, mix it up good and get used the feel of the gun, and adjust the pressure to leave an even coat.

Also check out some auto body books.

Kick back with the book(s) and a beer, if you drink beer, and enjoy.

You'll get plenty of information from FTE.

Good luck and have fun.

You have done well for asking first, it will save you a lot of money and hard work , to get knowledge FIRST. Doing bodywork and painting autos is simple looking, but not simple, there a LOT of details in it that will effect the total outcome of the job. If the forums here, after doing a "search" of what is here already is not enough, type in "autobodystore" , " paintucation" or something to that effect in your browser, and that will get you a lot of bodywork/ painting info from other forums, that will help out too. Each forum has people on them that specialize in different facets of the industry. They are "gold mines of knowledge" , with people having YEARS of experience in auto body/paint work to share with you and to gain from, so that you do not have to repeat expensive mistakes already made by them... . ..

It is a expensive task and makes a REAL mess of your garage, and is UNSAFE to do unless you know the precautions for the usage of the products you will be using. Do not be afraid to ask what you may feel are dumb questions. The only dumb question I ever see asked is " How come I didnt know that before I did it and screwed it up" ?? good luck to you,
