I keep reading about there being three fuel pumps. One in each tank and another one under the cab. I have looked in my Helm's manuals for an explanation of these pumps and can find only the in tank fuel pumps. The electric diagrams for my truck show only the in tank fuel pumps. The Helm's manual describes the in tank pumps has being able to pump up to 123 PSI. Normal pressure for the in tank pumps in 39PSI.
My questions are.
1. Do some trucks have the third pump I heard about?
2. Do some trucks have only two pumps?
3. Are people repeating wrong information about three pumps?
Yes, it is true that some trucks have only the in-tank pumps!I'm not really sure what year they did away with the frame pump, but it's somewhere around 91-92.Like I said,I'm not sure,so visual inspection will be the best determination. Now you got me wondering if the newer set-up has less problems with faulty gas guage readings & less problems with pumping fuel from the back tank into the front?Maybe FORD changed because of the recurring problems on the late 80 models!I wonder if a retro fit is possible? Let's see;2 new pump/sending units and a longer fuel line from the selector valve to the filter...hhummm....

Phillip, my 93 has the tiny speeder fuel pump up on the frame rail, actually its about equal with the front of the door. my question is, If the 3rd pump speeds up fuel, then that would mean that if the 3rd pump is missing, then the intank pumps must use highpressure. is that right?
I've got a 93 also. I looked where you described and all I saw with an electrical connection on it was some kind of module with brake lines on it. Are you sure what you are talking about is on the fuel lines.

Yes its infront of the fuel filter, it has about 2-3 wires going into it. I think its silent but not sure. I saw the brake thing too, what the heck does that do?

Being it has fluid going inward/outward my guess is that it probably has something todo with the master cylinder. by the way, what engine do you have? I have the 302.

I've got a Gibson stainless steel single exhaust. When the original system rusted out I decided to replace it with a stainless system. I do just about all of my own repairs so I put the stainless system on so it will hopefully be the last one I put on. I owned my last truck 17 years. I plan on owning this one a long time also.
same here, not having any problems yet and hopefully dont want to, My dad ordered it new and I bought it when it was not quite 2 yrs old. I know this truck like the back of my hand. I know every maintence etc. What are you getting for mileage?
