Piston Install

i was just reading Steve Christ book and i noticed that on the piston installation that it has noted to use white grease and then oil on the rod bearings.

I have engine assembly lube that i am using to put my motor back together with.

I used just the engine assembly lube on the main bearings. Is that ok? or should i take them out and put white grease on them and put i back.

How about on the rod bearings do i need the white grease or will the engine assembly lubed do fine?

The white grease just help it from running off and drying up. If you plan on quickly using the motor, then I would not loose any sleep over what you are doing.

As long as you prime the motor before turning it over/starting it then you'll be fine. I have never had any problems with just using oil on bearings. Be sure to oil the wrist pins/rings before putting then in the hole too!

how about waiting like 10 days. Is that to long to wait?

i am planning on priming the oil system few times befor i start the motor.

Would engine assembly lube be a bad idea on the wrist pins?

Back in the old days we didn't have "engine assembly lube" or "white grease". The white grease really is kinda like the assembly lube...it sticks better than oil and doesn't run off. Both of them help more if your startup is a long time from assembly. However, I wouldn't worry at all...I've built many motors without using assembly lube...just oil things up good as you assemble....plus if it does set for very long then prime the engine before you start it....in fact the "prime the engine" thing is just good startup practice period.

Hope You're having fun putting that thang together. As for me, I'm completely finished with my engine...gonna build the trans this week and maybe If I'm lucky I'll hear her run this weekend!
