05 Dash paint
05 Dash paint
Hey everybody, new to the board and to Ford actually.
Just got my 05 supercrew about 3 weeks ago and am absolutely loving it.
But I've got a bit of a problem now.
I went and bought an air freshener, the kind that you clip on your AC vent and has the liquid (parfum) in it and as the AC blows you get a nice fresh smell.
So I let my wife drive it to work on day (I know, that was my first mistake) and she by accident knocked the thing over when she parked it back at home. So the parfum leaked out and melted/dissolved a thin stripe of the paint off of the dash by the the left passenger AC vent. $#%!@*& was my first thought but I said it's not your fault, it could've happened to me as well.
So now my question is how do I fix that? Can a bodyshop or a good truck customizing shop (there's a real famous one right down the road from me) fix that without having to replace the entire dash?
Without that costing me beaucoup dollars?

Snuka - Chris is right on - there are many different pieces to the dash and you may be able to replace the piece much easier/cheaper than trying to repaint. Can u describe the exact area in more detail? I've had my dash apart and it is not too bad.
Welcome to the forum - you will find many helpful members here and lots of great idea's for your new F-150!!

Snuka (neat name), Welcome to this forum. If you explain in detail your dash problem location or provide a picture these guys can probably tell you how to replace the piece in detail.Good Luck!
Thanks for the welcomes.
OK, if you're in the passenger seat you have 2 ac vents. It's on the one on the left. Imagine if water came out of the vent and dripped down the dash. The paint is dissolved in an area bout 1/8" wide by 2" long. A long straight line where the drops of that #$%&*@ perfum rolled down.
I don't have my digital camera with me right now, but if still not clear I'll post a pic tomorrow or so.

This is just my experience, but the dealership damaged the painted portion of my dash while working on the AC. They tried to have it repainted, but the guy that the dealership used just was not able to get it done right. Alot of the problem on mine was the fact that he could not find the right color and texture paint at the time. The grey painted portion of the dash is actually the shell for the entire dash and it is all one piece in my '04. All the vinyl pieces of the dash actually attach to this protion of the dash. The dealership had to replace mine because the painter actually created more problems than he fixed, and that was very expensive (i think they told me $1200 for the part, their cost). I do not understand why the guy who worked on mine had such a hard time finding the right paint, but hopefully you will have better luck. Hopefully you can find a paint shop that can repair the dash by painting it, just make sure you check their work thoroughly and make sure they have the right color and texture paint.
From what I came accross, Ford has a spray can of this paint. I only read it on a thread,so I would check w/ the dealer on it.
