4x4 drive question

I have a 91 Bronco, this winter when I put it in 4 wheel drive I could smell something burning. Can anyone recommend what I should check and what maint, I should do on the drive train for this?

If you have the electronic transfer case it could be possible you had a short in the wire or the motor might be burning up. I fried my transfer case motor last year although I never smelled anything burning??

T-case used on F series and Bronco is a Part time model, it means it was designed to be used by short time periods. Using it for long time OR continuous speed over 45 MPH will produce some heat in it, in my own experience it can reach about 220ºF, of course it can smell like burning.

Next time you use it and smell bad, go under and verify where the smell comes.
