right front tire wearing bad

The right front tire on me 78 F250 2wd is balding on the middle- outside. The driver side tire is fine and the truck does not pull. I had my front tires at 55psi so I dropped them to 40psi hoping that will help. How much is a twin I-beam alignment? Who does it. What else would cause it. I hope just tire pressure but I don't think I'm that lucky at both where 55psi.
Thanks
Dustin

The tire wear that you have described is due to out of adjustment camber, specifically too much positive camber. Tires worn from overinflation are typically worn in the center, not towards any edges as described. Of course, there is a possibility of a combination of overinflation and offset camber, but since the opposing side tire is not showing similar symptoms, overinflation is most likely not the culprit.

Could also be too much toe-in,which will generally wear the rf outside(toe-out will wear the Lf inside)in extreme cases both tires will show wear. The only way to adjust camber is bend the I-Beams.

Unfortunately, that is a problem with that suspension. The tire moves in an arch, rather that straight up and down, causing increased wear on the edges. Along with the camber adjustment, the only other way to correct it, other than bending an I-beam, would be to get a softer spring to bring the tire into flatter contact with the road.

All parts tight? Gear, pins, bearings, axle bushings etc. Truck level side to side? If so,find frame/alignment shop, get camber/caster readings. Post results. Bending I-beams no big deal. They do require VERY GOOD SHOCKS. With everything right, they drive great & tires wear even.
