Leaking A4LD

I seem to be leaking tranny fluid from the 93 Aero 3.0

After degreasing and cleaning to be able to track down the source, it seems to be leaking from the front, passenger side. The fluid appears to be coming from the front circular thing on the side of the tranny (there are two of them about 3" in diameter) above the pan gasket. What is that? I am not all that familiar with what is what on the transmission and can't find a good diagram to help with my description. It does NOT look like it is coming from any of the trans. cooler connections or a pan gasket leak, or a leak at the front where it connects to the engine. The transmission is still working perfectly in all other respects, it is just starting to leave larger and larger puddles.

Any ideas?

I believe that those are your shift solinoids.

Also in that area is the modulator which is notorious about going out. There should be a vacuum hose coming from it.

I would double check to see where the tranny fluid is comming from, and the amount of oil in the crank case (usually tranny fluid is sucked into the engine so you have a very high level.)

if the modulator is the problem, doesn't the fluid go into the engine? Oil level looks fine, the only leak seems to be on the ground.

Would a bad modulator not also have some other transmission problem symptoms?

Over time it could just be leaking around the seal where it hooks up to the tranny. I was just hoping that was it (costs less to replace) instead of one of your solinoids. (big $$$)
