I just got a tranny from a buddy of mine and he said it was a c6,but the bell is reamovable and the pan dosen't look like a c6 pan,it has 14 bolts in the pan and its more rectangular ,so I took the number of the tranny and went to a dealership and they said it was a c6 aswell from a 78 fullsize car with a 400 engine I thought that c6 didn't come with reamovable bellhousings the numbers on the main body of the tranny are D8AP 7006 AA and the one on the tag thats bolted to the tail is PHB BDE 11. Can anyone id this tranny maybe the dealer typed in the wrong number.thanx
Don't know what the numbers mean, but is the body of the tranny cast iron or aluminum? I would say its a c4, but I thought they had 11 bolt pans? Might be an FMX if its a cast iron case.
This brings up some good questions because I have a buddy that has a 400 with the same trans and the manual says it's a C4 and it does have the removable bell. I have also seen the same bell on ebay and it was listed as a 460 C4 bell. They seem to be pretty rare or they are to me. I never knew there was such a things until a few months ago.
I've never heard of an FMX behind a 460 before so that doesn't help If it's an FMX does it share the same bell as the C4 460 trans?
i've herd that the fmx wasn't very good for big blocks,i'm putting it behind a 429(my project is taking a long time)this tranny should last for now,has anybody used the fmx for 429,460 and how much abuse will they take any input would be apreaciated thanx got to go work will check back later.
