03' 6.0l Stalling

I'm sure that this problem has probably been discussed on this site before, but I'm a new member. I purchased my 6.0L Turbo in March of 03'. This particular problem has happend about 10 times in the 2-1/2 years I have owned my truck. My truck will just shut-off for no apparent reason. Here is an example... I was comming up to a stop light, the light is red so, I pressed my break to shop. As I was slowing down (no competly stopped) the light turned green. When I pressed my accelerator to go through the light, my engine would stall. Another example is (this example is how 8 of the 10 stalls I've had would occur) I'm turning (right or left) onto a road or making a u-turn, in the middle of the turn, the engine cuts off. Aside from this, the engine runs like a champ. I've talked to 3 Ford dealerships and they don't know anything about this problem. I did see that the 04' & 05's have a recall for the same problem, why wasn't my 03' recalled??? Thanks, flaraiderford37

2003 6.0 stalling/hiccups

I am also a new member. While searching the net for informtion on possible recalls and problems with the 03' 6.0 diesel I came across this site. While I see the membership is extensive and knowledgable I was hoping to tap in to someones brain and lend a fellow motorhead out. Recently, about 3 months ago, I purchased a 03 superduty 250 FX4 4x4 with the 6.0 diesel with barely 30,000 miles on it. It was owned by a contractor whom need to get a dually to help out his towing which was told by the dealer. It was 3 days ago after putting 3,000 miles on it I started to have problems. It has only happened a half of dozen times but once is enough to catch my attention. While at a complete stop idling the engine would rev up like an attempt for the engine to pervent itself from stalling, only once did it actually stall. It started right up again but while cruising in the city at 40 mph the engine would rev/ or accelerate breifly (approx. 2 seconds). Recently even on the interstate while driving steady at 60 mph it would again rev/accerate. I know enough to realize that is not the norm and heck an dummy knows of a run-a-way diesel is no laughing matter. Can anyone lead us some info....

we do have many threads running on this issue and a few techs from ford who i know will chime in and try and help both of you out.
the recall is a large thread and the 03 is being looked into deeper due to more issues then the 04 and 05's.
please give the men who know time to chime in as they are both sides of the usa.
please enjoy FTE .

I would question the engine wire harness. Bucking, surging and stalling are pointing you in the right directions.

Huh? What are trying to say Tim?

I like the part about 3 dealers not knowing of an issue. From wires to sensors everything has to work right and it takes a good technition to solve your problems.

I must say find another dealer or one that listens.

I have an 03 6.0 PSD and she stopped running on me twice. Once on June 9th and again on June June 26th, 2005 with 19861 miles. The same reason twice ??? anyhow the The FORD technician reported that there was a chaffed wire on CIRCUIT 361 RED wire for the June 26th occurance so I have to assume the BLACK wire was chaffed on the June 9th occurance ... the FORD tech mentioned CIRCUIT 361 on this occurance as well. The Chaffed wire(s) caused loss of power to the PCM.

Has anyone else suffered these specifics with there 03 6.0 PSD?

Wiring harness problems are common. Check to make sure your not rubbing on the engine. In the tech folder some of these areas are pointed out to check for suspected points in the harness.

Unrealated....mice can do a whole bunch of damage if they decide to call your engine compartment home. My wife had a 2000 Pontiac and was the last one home during the cold days of winter. The mice decided it was as good of a place as any to call home. Needless to say engine codes and driveability issues plagued the car.

Hi
My 04 PSD has had driviability problems for the past year. Let see, EGR vlave plugged once, tranny recall which seems to have helped the stalling issue. But the main issue now which has proven to be unsafe is the surging issue I have. No codes are thrown, surges at idel, in reverse, while driving, when the engine is cold and when it is warm. The surging even made the truck go about 3 to 5 mph faster when I took off my foot off of the gas pedal. It surged once when I had my foot on the brake, I almost had to stand on the brake to prevent backing into a squad car. When the dealerships get it, no codes, they say nothing wrong. Its at the dealership again, for the same problem.

Just out of curiosity 04excursion_psd, did you change the oil or oil type just prior to the surging issue?
