Engine + transmission swap
I have a 1973 high-boy with a 390 and a np 435 tranny. I use the truck mostly as a daily driver with some fun thrown in on the weekends. I want to change out the engine and tranny, but I don't really know my best options. I want more mpg's, power and an automatic transmission. I can go with a crate 390 and a c-6 from Jaspers. My friends are suggesting a 351w or an EFI. I don't know if I can put the new powerstroke 6.0 diesel and it's transmission in my truck, but if it's possible - it would be awesome. Is there anyone out there that has some experience swapping engines, where to buy, and who can install. I live in Huntington Beach California. i had that same truck with the same setup as you. i got 10mpg loaded or empty. if you go to the C6 id imagine your mileage will go down so stick with that tranny its bulletproof. what size tires are you running? if you add some headers,aluminum intake with a 650cfm 4barrel and a little head work you may find an increase by at least 2mpg.
