Ive just bought an '84 F150 4x4 with the 300 6. The truck was sitting for a long time and there is alot of carbon build up in the cylinders. Is there anything I can add to my fuel to get rid of the carbon? Also, has anyone heard of something called water injection?(I think thast what its called) A friend was telling me about it. What you do is pour water into the carb, since the water dosnt burn, it bounces around the cylinder knocking all the carbon off the top of the piston and off the cylinder walls. Just one more thing, what would a 300 6 sound like with the muffler removed but the cat left one? Sorry for the long messege, but i need all the help i can get. Thanks
I have used ATF before, pouring it down the carb slowly while throttleing,to remove carbon. It will also free up a stuck valve in most cases.Be careful of your neighborhood watch while you do this 'cause it REALLY makes a LOT of white smoke that seems to linger for a while. After "dopeing" youe engine you will have to take a highway run to blow out everything that was loosened up.

Phillip, how would you go about doing that to a fuel injected motor? I have been told by local mechanics that there is a machine that does this, but I kinda like the thought of $5 over $100. Thanks
GM makes a product called Top Engine Cleaner. You dump half of it slowly down the carburator/throttle body with the engine idled high. Then you dump the rest of the can in fast enough to kill the engine. Let it soak for 10-15 minutes, and restart the engine. It will smoke alot, but this cleans the cylinders/valves about the best of any product I have used.
I have used trans fluid mixed with water down carbs before, and it works well also, though not as well as Top Engine. Trans fluid works in the oil to. It has a high detergent content and works well to free up noisy lifters and remove sludge. Do an oil change, substitute 2qts tranny fluid instead of oil, drive about 500 miles and change the oil.
The machine they are talking about is probably the "Motor Vac" that I have suggested to people before on this board. The Motor VAc is truely a unique machine. It has a pressurized wand that can be inserted into the throttle bores and other passages to wash out gunk and carbon, even while the engine is running.Besides that it also back flushes the fuel rack and pressure cleans the injectors. The detergent they use is AWESOME.If you want to de-carbon yourself, you can use a pump spray bottle that will spray ATF,and spray into the throttle bores. Also, you can use a pressurized spray canister. The GM Top End cleaner is a good product also.
