Recently purchased a 1992 F150 with a bad transmission.
Took the truck to the transmission shop and had it rebuilt.
At 35mph you can feel the converter locking and unlocking.
You either have to slow down or pickup speed to make it quit.
It feels like it is shifting between gears and can't find one it likes.
If you turn off the overdrive it quits doing it.
Took it back to the shop and they have had it for 2 weeks and can't fiqure it out
Is it Possible that the Vacum Modulator has gone bad? I am terrible at explaing things in laymens terms I have enclosed a much easier description of it. If the vacuum modulator has a hole in its diaphragm, the valve body thinks that the throttle is wide open, and the shift valve will move into the lower gear position. This will result in harsh, late shifts, if the transmission upshifts at all.
My only other huntch would be a bad valve body which controls the shift points of each gear inside the transmission. Hopefully someone else here can add more input, hope this helps.
