Gas mileage

If you want to run the trucks down the 1/8th or 1/4 mile Christmas Tree controlled slab of asphalt, then the "Heavy Viper" is probably more powerful.
I you intend to hook up or load your V10 powered truck for it's intended purpose, then the Ford SuperDuty will "get er done"!
I think you should bet your uncle that if you can out pull him with a similar load up a hill then he should immediately sell his Dodge and buy a PSD SuperDuty
But if you loose, you have to sell your truck and get a Hemi!
I am sure somebody will climb in and let you know why I am being a smart ***.
OH yea... Welcome to FTE and the V10 forum ....Home of the BSEG!
In a nutshell, the old Dodge V10 will easily outpull the 6.8L V10 at low engine and ground speeds but it really falls on it's face against the Ford V10 at highway speeds.
It may be that the usable rpm/power range is more narrow on the Dodge engine and it shows it on the highway. On the other hand it really gets a load moving with authority from a dead stop-I have to admit more strongly than my V10.
On the highway the Ford engine accelerates quicker under load, say from 45mph to 70mph and spends less time in low gears.
I liked the last series of Dodge engines and hate the newer ones. It's hard to call any gas engine that made 445lb-ft at only 2000rpm "weak" and that Dodge 8.0L V10 was doing it before the Ford V10 was even available. My 2003 Ford V10 is rated at 400lb-ft at that engine speed. I also really like the last generation Dodge 318. They were all good low-rpm torque engines that were durable and easy to work on. That's about all I ever liked about Dodge trucks too!
