Question Which amp?

I'm using a Pioneer 3370XM and replaced the stock speakers with the Pioneer TS-A6870R. That alone made the whole system very nice. But now I'm thinking I'd like to push those Pioneer's a bit. The deck is rated at 50X4 but we know that is not the whole truth.

So, which amp do you guys recommend? I've looked at the Sony Xplod (60X4), the Infinity 7541a (111x4), MB Quart (100X4), Rockford Fosgate (50X4), and the Power Acoustik (100X4). I have no desire to install a sub and just want to drive the speakers I have.

The speakers can handle any power that is thrown at them and even at the low deck wattage they are sweet.

These speaker are rated at 50W RMS, So that stated I'd look for something in the 50Wx4 to 100Wx4 area. Keep in mind that if you do not want a sub, pushing bass through the 6x8s will certainly blow them even at lower wattage below the manufactures rating. I have a Vibe531 that is rated at 100Wx4 RMS + 200Wx1 RMS into 4 ohms for each channel. I think the Bostons that I replaced the stocks with handle 50 rms but not sure. However, I am not using them to fill in the lower end. I'd highly recomend getting an 8" sub to fill in the low end, you'll find that relieving the deck of having to push power for the Bass will seem like it has more power and less distortion.

No, I don't want to push bass so much as I want volume of sound. I've noticed that most systems now prefer to rattle the sheet metal and although I don't mind a solid thump now and then I don't need the constant rattle of the vehicle being thumped apart. The peak power of the Pioneer's is over 200 watts, something I have no desire to hit. I just want to drive the 6X8's.

Just something to wake me up in the morning on the way to work.

Based on what your saying though, a solid 50X4 would fill the ticket?

There is a perfect amp for ya. 4x50 RMS at 4ohms.
Or you can go a little bigger and try this one...

Do you mean the MBQ reference amp thats on sale at Crutchfield?

I have this one, and allow me to give you my general opinion of it.

It's a bad-@$$.

I use it to power CDT Audio components in the front and stocks in the rear (I had CDT's for the rear too, but they can not be adapted to fit due to depth issues, so I haven't dealed with that yet.) It has great sound quality...my only issue is that it does seem to clip before it gets as loud as I felt it should. Since I had designed my system for quality, and not volume, I don't consider this an issue, but something to think about.

Installation is odd, because it uses specific plugs for everything, so I don't know what might happen if one of them were to get damaged, since rumours on the internet are that MB Quart, after being bought by Rockford Fosgate, may have a short life span.

All in All, The amp is sweet for a 4x100, and I would most assuredly recommend it for quality sound output.

You could stick with Pioneer if you want. Here's one I found on ebay just looking for a model number PIONEER GM-6100F. Price should be equivalent to the others. I concur with the others on the use of a 8 inch sub or even maybe a 6 inch midbass. It would flow so much better, but your 6x8's will do all right for a while.

Thanks for the information guys. I have an issue with the sub since I don't have room for one inside the supercab and my two sons probably wouldn't like it either (even though I turn it down when their inside).

Ryan, that Pioneer looks like it will work. It's new enough that are no reviews of it but since I won't be pushing mine hard all the time it should work. If there was an easy way to stick a sub in the truck I might go for one.

Talking

Any amp you decide to use will be an upgrade from the deck amp. Pushing large amounts of "bass" can be damaging to just about any door speaker. The places you will notice a big difference in mid-bass and treble. Make sure your deck or the amp you purchase has a built-in crossover because you dont want the lower frequencies bombarding your fragile 6x8s. You may also want to check out the bass-tubes and vehicle-specific enclosures made for your truck. These little guys might add the extra low end that your door speakers were not made to handle.(They are tiny enough to fit under a seat)
