Question about the AOD...

Ive been wanting to go to an automatic for a while now, and i need the tranny to be an overdrive, so the AOD is definately the one i want....So ive been hunting on ebay for a tranny and i see alot of car trannies(Town car, Mustang etc.) going for real cheap, so my question is Are the car trannies the same as the truck trannies???

Edit:
One more question, Will i need to modify my driveshaft or crossmember for this transmission???? Currently i have a T-18 in my truck

The transmissions are basically the same the only difference is the tail shaft on the AOD. The cars have a shorter tail shaft. I put a rebuilt AOD in my truck and that was the only difference because the tranny shop didn't put my old tail shaft on so it is about 1in. shorter but still works. What year/model truck do you have? Are you going to sell the T18 and if so what shape is it in? I am wanting to convert my pickup over to a manual. As for the drive shaft and crossmember i'm not sure i've never tried that before.

hotrod i've got a 4 speed granny that would make your 302 stand and deliver. my 250 is so low geared i can't run any speed on highway. if your going to switch to manual tranny your going to need clutch, clutch pedal. if compatable i'd be interested in swapping. let me know.
