i have a 77 f350 with a 330 fe which i was going to put a c6 behind.it is a dual wheel small box truck which weighs about 6500 lbs,i just picked up a very low mileage '85 302 w/ an AOD(from a mustang gt) ,
i would like the overdrive but is the aod strong enough to handle the truck?
did they use aod's in trucks?
the 330 is no powerhouse,so i am not to worried about the 302,just dont want to go thru all the trouble to get the overdrive and burn it up.
Absolutely not! Don't you mean a 360? That 302 won't pull the truck around very well either. The AOD can be built up to handle some tough applications but it is $$$.
Light trucks did come with AODs but you should steer clear of this swap for several reasons. The pre 88 AOD does not have good rear geartrain lube and the 100% lockup is only in OD so if you are pulling hard in third then you are at 60% lockup and slippage is transferred as heat.
