Hi all,
Just returned from Baja,mexico,a/c worked fine but now it's always on,no matter where the dial is set.
Truck is under warrenty but I hope to avoid being without it for several days for a possibly easy fix.
any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve
I thought I was going nuts. Thanks for the insight. I use the little known position called "OFF" and it stops it everytime.
A/C on all the time. I think that is what they call a "feature" and it is "working as designed". That is what I tell customer that call in for tech support on the computer systems that I support.
So there is no way to have fresh outside air through the vent without the AC? I thought only when the **** was turned to the left was supposed to be AC, but I noticed the air is colder than the ambient air even when the **** is turned to the right.
In 03 the compressor would disengage in the vent, floor heat, and the off positions. I wouldn't think the compressor would run in the vent postion. Check your owners manual. It may have somthing in there about the compressor operation.
The AC light (Compressor) is always on when the temperature is above 38 degrees Fahrenheit and the climate control is not set to off. When the temperature drops below 38, you shouldn't see the AC light on anymore. This can be misleading because the compressor will still run in the defrost mode. I have seen this vary between the '01 and '05 models years.
That is what I stated in my above post. Compressor working EXCEPT when in the off position. This is what the Ford mechs said anyhow.
On my way home from work tomorrow I will turn on my heater and set the temp setting to cold just to see what happens.
My 86 runs in all positions other than off and vent.
The heater control is now and has been for many years called the climate control.
If it is working correctly, in theory, you could set it at a position that is comfortable and drive from someplace 100 degrees to someplace 20 degrees and never touch the controls.
But as all things generally are, it does not work exactly like that.
