Thanks for help on my oil question. I got my 55 over the winter and did all the work to get it back on the road for this summer. The whole idea behind getting this truck was to tub it out and make it a hot rod. The truck is in good shape and it would be a sin to cut it up. So now im thinking about getting a 2nt frame and starting from there. I would still like to tub it out and put in a 4 link. Upgrade the 223 to a 500+hpv8 and have no clue what to do with the tranny, but I’d like to keep 3 on the tree. I’m 27 and had bin building imports (300whp vw’s) but I always had a ford 4x4 in the driveway. Now im building my dream hot rod and ill need all the help I can get.

Well love to here from you on ideas and tips for this soon to be hot rod.
Welcome to FTE!!! You are in good company here, where we rodders are called "Darksiders". Plenty of folks have the same idea you have about how one of these Effies should be rodded out and the expertise is awsome.
You'll get some great advice and sources for the stuff you need as you go along. Just ask your questions and don't be shy.
I guess I'm considered a "darksider". Welcome to FTE also. As Randy explained, you can get a lot of great advice and ideas in here. The best advice I can give is to spend some time and go through the galleries in this website and look at the trucks that catch your eye. Maybe look through some truck magazines and see what style appeals to you. That way you can set a plan in your head on which way you want your truck to look like. Remember, things always change and so do plans, and that's OK. As for the 223, it's my opinion that 500+ horsepower will take some serious modifications and machining to pull those kind of numbers. You may want to opt for a big block to get that kind of horsepower. As for the transmission, with that much horsepower you'll probably tear it up quickly. The three on the tree is always cool to look at, but not very practical if you want slam shift that puppy. Depending on what engine you stick with will determine what tranny you can run. Automatics are always nice and an easy installation. Lokar makes some nice floor shifter that look nostaligic. Good luck on your project.
Rod that sucker!! I agree with the assessment of the 3 on the tree. Have you had much experience with them? ever driven an older one that has some wear to it? It always frun to roll off the side of the road somewhere, pop the hood, search around for an appropriate rock and proceed to beat heck out of the linkages to get them to free up so that you can continue along your way. I've had several over the years both Ford and GM and they both seem to produce the same colorful language at times.
I would think that having some decent horses under the hood with be much sweeter with a better way to run them through the gears
People think your transmissions broke when you drive a column shift now. Nobody remembers those things....My '69 Bronco had one and I never had it get stuck but they aren't designed for quick shifts.
Reverse was always fun, the shifter was pointing straight up almost.
