i have a 1989 f150 with a 302 it has 188 000kms on it the 302 is fine except the oil pressure
when i warm it up its fine then sometimes the pressure will drop to the n while im driving it
and when i stop it will say that i dont have any pressure at all until i go again anyone out there with any suggestions?

The motor is wore out , such as main bearings & rod bearings, cam bearings. To much clearance at the bearings will cause an engine to lose oil pressure when its warm, and I'd bet the farm this is your problem. Time for a long block.

Before you pass your engine off to Dr Kavorkian, put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it to determine the actual oil pressure. The gauge on my 88 Bronco read less than "N". When I put a gauge on it the actual pressure was 60 psi. A new sender fixed the problem. If you have 10-12 psi at idle and 45 psi at 2000 rpm you are in spec. If it takes heavy weight oil to get there, you can still get a few more miles out of the old beater. With all those kms, it might be time to start planing a rebuild in the near future anyway.

With that many miles you are bound to have some additional clearance in bearings, pump, etc, and loss of some pressure. IMO, do not tear into it until you try a mechanical gauge on it. Ford tried three times to get the oil pressure reading correctly on my 88 F150 w/302 while under warranty. I finally gave up on Ford and put a mechanical gauge on it and then I knew what the oil pressure was. Unless the oil has been changed regularly the screen is probably starting to clog. ray

He said 188,000 KILOMETERS not miles...thats only 116,000 miles. Let him try a sender first, then bet your farm.

Sorry didn't catch the kms, thing, I thought it was miles, the eyes are going. and you are right to check with a mechanical gauge first, as it could be the sending unit is bad, I've had that very problem myself, but I'll have to say I've been the unhappy owner of a few 302's also, but yes definitely check the pressure with a mechanical gauge first!
