Sorry-my "search" function won't work with my computer/browser...
Does anybody know where I can find one of those diamond-plate-type channel step rear bumper for a '66 F250? I imagine a bumper from any year '61 thru late 60's would fit, as long as the frame dimension in the rear was the same. I actually have one now, but it's not the one with the little wraps on each side that wrap around the bed corner. Not the FULL bed wrap, although that would be great, but just the small 6" wrap would do.
I have a "thing" for rear bumpers.
Measure the width of your frame rails. From 73 thru mid 90's, the F series frame were either 33 or 37 inches, depending on 2wd or 4wd application. I'd look for a 73-77 Ford bumper. On the back side where the brackets bolt up to it, that's where you'd measure.
All, the frame width changed (for 2x4 trucks anyway) in '73. The rails are wider, which creates issues with using '73 and later beds, axles and bumpers on the '72 and earlier trucks.
You can use a '73 bumper, but you will need to use spacers and longer bolts. I used 1.5" lenths of 1/2 water pipe to put a '76 step bumper on my '66 - but it wouldn't be as strong for towing, I wouldn't think.
Further, I do not recommend you use a '67 - 72 bumper. The "wing" on the ends where if curves forward has a narrow cut out that just barely fits our trucks, and will dent the lower quarter panel. Don't ask how I learned this! The cut out for the wings on the '73 and later bumper is adequate, though.
