Question What to look for?

I'm looking to buy a used 2001-2003 F-350 crew cab diesel with Auto.
Is there anything I should keep an eye out for? I'm new to the Power stoke.

I do have a Cummings Diesel but looking for the more room that ford offers.

Thank You

Two things first off:
1. That's "Ford" with a capital "F" ; and
2. Welcome to FTE!!!

Now to your question: If memory serves, I recall hearing something about the early '03's having injector problems on the PSD's. I'm sure others here will chime in and clarify. '01's and '02's your pretty safe on...just watch the mileage, drivetrain, 4X suspension components, etc on the older trucks that you loook at.

The 7.3L PSD is an excellent motor, so if you're inclined that way in lieu of the 6.0L PSD....

Just my $.02,
Daryl

If you're shooting for an 01-03, then get the 7.3 - I'd recommend a 2003 with the 7.3. The 4spd auto they put in those things were the weakest link in the chain, so make sure that service was done to the tranny. Look for signs of a chip or programmer as well. Programmers will be difficult to detect, but the chip piggybacked on the computer will be easy. Programmed/chipped trucks aren't bad, but if the truck's been pushed by a 150hp increase, the tranny may experience premature failure.

PS - Get any truck you buy inspected - I can't stress that enough.

you will find our men a ladies to be very up on information and more then willing to share.
i will agree with our people. the 03 1/2 6.0 is not as good as the 03 7.3 a tryed and true respected motor . one i respect highly as my family has one with 250 k on it running great yet. for a 6.0 i think i would try for a late 04 or 05 which seem to have less bugs but will be suffering from a major recall shortly. good luck with your choice

I have an 03 with the 6.0L and I have not had any problems with the engine so I'm not sure why someone would say it's not as good as another engine.

Like another vehicle purchase, look the vehicle over real well and do what you can to get service records. Take an extended test drive not just around the block. Get underneath and look for leaks. Again, same thing you would do woith any other vehicle. I also recommend that you stop folsk you see in parking lots or at the gas station who are driving a PSD and get some feedback from them. That is what I did. I spoke to over 20 people and not a single complaint form any of them. Good luck with your search.
