When testing trailer wiring - the first time I've done it myself - something was crossed and a fuse blew. The headlights didn't work until I replaced it. Now the lights work, except for the highbeams.
I checked all the fuses in the engine compartment and the fusebox under the dash, and they all look good. I suspected the multi-function switch, and sprang the $70 to replace it. Still no highbeams.
I don't have a detailed diagram of a 97. But I do have a 99 diagram, and I can't believe how many fuses they have just for the headlights. There is 5 in all.
If your van happens to be like the 99, it looks like there still may be a fuse blown in the fuse box under the left side of the instrument panel.
There is a fuse under the hood that feeds the headlight circuit.
Then there is a fuse that feeds the flash to pass circuit.
Then there are two individual fuses under the dash that feed each lowbeam.
There is one other fuse under the dash that feeds both highbeams.
