Recall?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, and I am wondering what you all have heard about the recall on the super duty trucks and excursions with 6.0L PSD? I have a 2004 EB 4X4 PSD Excursion and while driving it at 35-45 MPH it has jerked like if it was going to stall, or die out. I didn't see any balck smoke and it hasent happened like in two weeks. I only have 29,000 miles on it and don't use it to often, only when the whole family goes out. I haven't had any loss of power and the engine sound great. Love this truck!!

Well, you're still under factory warranty, so I'd take it into your dealer and see what they have to say about it.

Hey Ruben,

It is actually hard to see the black smoke in the Excursion due to the dark windows I have found. Plus, it is not a huge amount just a puff. I only see it once in a while when I really look for it. Usually I am too busy looking to see if I am going to run over someone in front of me in rush-hour when it has one of it's bucking/jerking episodes. Mine is in the shop right now hopefully getting fixed. I have had the FICM harness replaced a month ago and still had the issue. The only thing that has not been looked at is the ICP sensor, which my feeling is the culprit at this point.
Call your dealer and have them run an OASIS report on your VIN to see if yours fall under the recall. Don't bother with the Ford websites recall check, none of them are showing up yet. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies Toreador Diesel and Gawent.

I'll call my dealer and schedule an appointment to see if they can diagnose the problem and also to see if my excursion was in the recall.
Gawent, keep me posted to see if your problem was fixed and what they did.

Thanks,
Ruben G

I Called up my local dealer and they ran my VIN. They said that at this time they do not have any recalls on my vehicle. Also the NHTSA website shows the recall begining on july 5, 2005. So i'll guess I have to wait until it shows up on there computer or ford website.

I have an update to my last post. Since then my service advisor had called me to let me know that a Ford Diesel Engineer ran diagnostics on mine while he was visiting their facility from Detroit. The advisor told me that it threw 2 codes for him - p0403 = electrical shorts and p0405 = EGR valve sticking. Based on this, the engineer authorized them to replace the entire engine wiring harness! Plus, replace the FICM harness with an even newer version then the one they just put on a month ago. They will also be putting in a new EGR valve and a CAC tube with updated clamps.
Now granted, I have had this thing into them 3 times now for the same problem which is why I think they are doing the recall before it goes into effect. It really blew me away about them replacing the entire engine wiring harness, I even had him clarify it with me that it was in addition to the FICM harness. I will keep you posted on how it runs when I get it back. (I miss it, I love mine too and probably won't have it back until Monday or Tuesday)
