Steering
I ahve an 84 F-150 longbed 4x4 with a 300-6. The steering is very loose on this truck. when coming out of a long, shallow turn, the truck continues to turn even when i turn the wheel to get it back on track. what can i do to fix this? the truck has power steering. Yhanks

Snapper-Rider, there are a lot of parts on these TTB front ends to wear out, just start checking them out , radius arm bushings, pivot bushings, steering linkages. If you find nothing there your steering gear box might need adjusted. Check for worn parts first though. Good luck!

Real common on these older trucks is for the steering coupler to be worn and also torn. The coupler is located between the steering colum and the gear box, you may have to remove a plastic cover to look at it. More than likly this is the problem, but if the steering is binding, not wanting to return to neutral, you may have a tight gear box or bad king pins.

MY 83 BRONCO HAD REAL LOOSE STEERING. I MADE AN ADJUSTMENT TO MY STEERING BOX WHICH TIGHTED IT UP TREMENDOUSLY!!! LOOK ONTOP OF YOUR STEERING BOX FOR A FLAT HEADED SCREW ADJUSTMENT WITH A NUT AROUND IT. HAVE A BUDDT HOLD THE SCREW TIGHT WHILE YOU LOOSE THE NUT. AFTER THE NUT IS LOOSE, TIGHTEN THE SCREW, BUT ONLY VERY SMALL TURNS AT A TIME THEN RETIGHTEN THE NUT AND CHECK THE STEERING. YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NOT TOMUCH OR THE STEERING BOX WILL FREEZE UP ON YOU!!
