Depends on how you do it, but not really. Alot of people have been able to get the filter to fit on the stock intake tube. I had a piece of 4 inch exhaust tubing cut for me at NAPA then just painted it. You can also use PVC adapters, they work good I have seen.
I went the way big daddy T said. I got some scrap 4 inch exhaust tubing from a Midas dealer that had a good 45 and 90 degree bend in it and had a fit for myself. I sawzall'd the 45 degree about 2 inches from the bend and another 4 inches from the opposite side after eyeballin' what I needed. I completly removed the old air intake box and made a new "airdam/airbox" out of a .50 caliber ammo can to keep the outside air swirling around the filter not just blowing by. The fact that the outside air is cooler helps performance too. I could have left the new filter to lay on/in the old lower half of the airbox but decided NOT.
Forgot somthin' - I looked at PVC and ABS pipe connections to join the filter and stock tube but decided against it. the 4 inch pipe cons would have stretched the rubber too far and eventually caused a tear. the 3 inch fit nicely inside the tubes but I felt they were too restrictive, the inner diameter is in the 2.8 inch range beacause of the taper needed for pipe to pipe fit. Too much friction loss in the system, i might as well order a brand new stock air cleaner from Ford and put it in.
You have the same year truck as mine, I took the stock box out and the with a little work slid the existing tubing that would gone over the stock box on the filter. I did pull the section out to to it and on install all I had to due was connect it back up at the Crank Vent.
