I have a 1988 F250, 302 EFI C6 auto. This has started to occure over the last few days.
When the auto is cold it will drive fine in reverse but when drive (or any other forward gear) is selected it slips and will hardly move forward. Then a thud after a few seconds and it is all OK until it is allowed to get cold again. The tranny is fine in that once this has happened is tows a three ton trailer with no slip. Any suggestions on what I should be looking at ?

I had a smiliar problem with my 84 Bronco w/C6. My difference is that it wouldn't go into gear at all. I had to let it run for 5 min and go from neutral to reverse 5-6 times before forward would work. The trans guy said it was some internal seal and it cost me $150 to have him fix it.
ooo, please elaborate on this 'some kind of seal'. I've been having a slipping problem lately, usually when it's not warmed up yet, but every now and then, rarely, it'll pop out of O/D and start revving. anyway, if you can, tell me more.
Sorry I don't currently have any more info but I just told him to fix it as I have no tranny knowledge... If I see him I'll ask about it. I just posted that so he would have a ball-park figure on $$$...
