Compression Ratio?

Compression Ratio?
Howdy, im brand new to this site, though i have been watching it for a while. Anyway, I have heard that raising the compression ratio is one of the best upgrades for an engine, but how is it achieved? This question has been bothering me for a while. Thanks

u can raise compression several ways. one is by using domed pistions, milling/decking the block and head (shaving material off the surface) or by forcing my air inside.
the first 2 effectivly make the combustion chamber smaller to allow for a more compact mixture and a more potent "explosion"
