just an update

since my latest visit to ford svc.
and computer reflash
I have not had the check engine light come on
1 st tank since was 7.6 mpg-- Im running 2nd thru now
motor still idles real funny -- it still surges up and down
they said it was fine at dealer-- still seems odd to me

-I have 4 brand new Conti tires--arghh-- at least there new
-scrathes on all of my 18" rims - I guess from changing tires
-No spare back under the truck--I ll have to go back

Here is what I dont get-- I brought the truck in complaining of a dirveshaft
vibration created when they did the tranny recall -- I said not one word about tires of tire balance

Well they said they would charge me to find and fix vibration and they put the
4 new tires on under warranty

the truck drives 100% identical now as it did b4 they serviced it
It is really sad and upsetting that they would waste that much time and money on tires-- when IMO my old tires were just fine
"Oh it has driveshaft vibration-- well just throw some new tires on it, that oughtta do it"

So I m gonna have to fix my vibration myself

sorry to rant on guys---Im not upset with the truck just Fords blunders and short comings

later
Josh

Josh

I hear you brother, and hate to tell you that if I did not need a monster truck I would not screw with most American companies just because of the incompetent and lazy service departmens (sales side is a whole other rant)

You NEED to find a competant dealer..they are out there.

I have driven 75 miles each way before just to get to a dealer I knew, trusted, and did me right.

pull your drive shaft off the rear end and just move the ujoint around a half turn and see what happens . if they did not mark it and put it back the way it was it could possibly cause a vibration.

Hello
looking under there
looks like they marked everything with yellow crayon
Ive tried a center bearing shim kit with several different sizes
which has made no difference

I mechanic friend of mine recommended I take the whole shaft and center support assy. out and have it balanced all together as a unit

can this be done? any idea on price?
do you think I should try rotating the shaft 1st?

thanks for the help guys

Josh, I had a vibration at 45 to 50 mph that I noticed after the work was done on snap ring recall. Took my truck in for oil change, so I asked dealer to check it out. The service manager went for a ride with me, agreed there was a vibration, kept the truck for a couple of days, to diagnose. Decided it was driveshaft related. Ordered a new shaft, installed it, vibration seems to be gone. I don't understand how they say you should just live with it on a new truck, under warranty

It really sounds like we have\had identical problems
glad to hear you got things straightened out with the shaft and all

I may try the dealer I bought the truck from and see if they will
fix the shaft or replace it

I know I posted about fixing it myself -- but it burns my a-- so badly right
now -- being a brand new 40k truck and all-- I have not gone ahead on this
plus the addition of personal time containts

I do have a friend that works at the dealer in question here
And apparently they dont want me to bring my vehicles there any more
it must be 3 strikes and your out
1. they used an air chisel on the drive shaft of my 01 SD -- royaly messed it up and had to buy a new shaft

2.vibration in my 05 after recall performed on tranny

3.they hit the lift with my 05 and had to buy a new tire

what ever live and learn
Josh

oh wait there is a 4-- my bad
4. while my car was in there parking lot-- some one backed into it or hit
the freshly painted rear bumper- took the paint right off down to primer

I have that driveshaft shudder, real bad at 35mph (especially with a trailing throttle), pops up again slightly over 50, and sometimes shows up a little over 70. Been waiting for the dealers to become experienced in recognizing and repairing the situation before bringing it in.

Josh, I see from info in your gallery your location. Where did you buy your truck? Also Isee from a previous post you took it to a lincoln mercury dealer for the snap ring recall. Did you have problems with selling dealer? Steve.

Hello guys

well today it pissed me off enough so I took the whole
2piece shaft out and brought it to Fleet Pride to have it
checked and or balanced

Here is what they told me
the front and the back shaft are bent too far to balance
the shafts must be retubed or replaced
2 end caps of the ujoints are worn out
and the center bearing is worn and should be replaced

well they wanted 400 something to repair
I declined and paid there 25.bill for spinning\checking it
they gave me a slip stating the diagnosis

so I took a ride to the dealer I bought the truck from
and explained to the svc. manager the situation
1st he said he hates fixing other peoples screw ups
then he said since I bought the truck there they would take a look
at it
He said for them to do it under warranty we have to start from scratch
I have to bring it in on vibration complaint-- then let them diagnose and
fix it
I guess its like that because the other dealer was responsible for damaging
the shaft and any cost for repair-- not ford warrantee
I bet this other dealer got ford to pay for the tire they blew out too
so there 1st available date is july 20th
Ill post my results from that visit

arghhhh

later
Josh

Man, it's so disheartening to read your continuing story. I hope this dealer will finally put the truck in order for you. Is the truck driveable? (lemon law?)

for the dealer to get paid they will have to start out with a fresh sheet of paper. bring it in as a vibration complant with a very detailed desription of how and what speeds. and let them do thieir thing kind of like a cya thing but try and remind the sm off the record of your conversation and the drive shaft company's findings.
it's going to be a 2 way street thing. work with them so they can work with you and at the same time cover their own sixes. and get paid for the work.

thanks for replys guys
I do think things will work out OK

I was thinking of emailing or writing a letter
to Ford to inform them of my troubles
what do you think?

Maybe its my fault for taking my trucks to a linclon\mercury dealer
that dosnt sell ford trucks
But they either should have the knowledge and tools to work on these
trucks properly or they should not Service ford trucks at all

Also, there are 2 reasons I have not used the selling dealer for svc.
1. 8-9 years ago I took a taurus car in for service--tranny problems
they qouted me some 1500. for repair-- to replace tq converter and some other stuff---It was out of warrantee and I declined svc.
I took it for a second opinion at a tranny shop--that tranny shop called 1 hour after I dropped it off and said it was fixed -- total bill$69.--
for a speed sensor or something-- tranny worked flawlessy for the rest of
my ownership time -- I called the ford dealer and asked why this was? and I got an 'I dont know'--left a bad taste in my mouth

2. they are a pretty high volume truck dealer and svc. is always booked
about 3 weeks out--1 week is reasonable in my mind but 3 does not fly
I am self employed--I use a truck for work daily--No truck=No work=No income-----Im sure some of you understand
when the tranny went in my 01 SD- it end up taking 1.5 weeks with me pushing gently the whole time-- and it was under warrantee
3+ weeks would have been devastating

happy fourth all

Josh
