In preperation for a long road trip, Miami back up to NY for a visit, I decided to crank down the spare and check the pressure, etc (I've had the truck since new, and realized I had never even checked the spare
I was shocked to see that the sidewall of the tire was worn down about 1/8-1/4 of an inch where it contacts the frame. Anybody hear of this problem before ?
Before I go buy a new tire, did Ford issue a recall or a TSB on this ?
I'll be sure to use some closed-cell foam padding between the tire and the frame before I crank the new tire up. Thanks.
Sorry I don't think ford is gonna give you a new tire. Is the tire actually worn or just indented. I've seen then indented pretty good from the crank being overtightened. If yours was worn down, it was probably a little loose.

Had that problem with mine, Still holds up though, I dont think mine was worn down that much, but it was not indents. Going on a road trip in 2 weeks, I should check that also, and putting some foam up there is a great suggestion.
As long as it didnt rub through any layers its fine, but if you can look at the indentions and see different layers of the sidewall then need to replace. They are fine to drive on if it's just indented (in my experience). just be sure to put it back in just right, just tighten down til doesnt slide around.
