79 Motor mount brackets
I have a 1979 F250 supercab 4x2 with a 351W that literally blew up (there was some fire involved). I happened to have a 351M that runs in a derby car. I have a problem however. I can't find any brackets so I can cheaply install the free engine. I have the mounts I just don't have the brackets to mount to the frame. I need to know if I can purchase these anywhere after market or if I will be spending a day at the junk yard pulling an engine for the two mounts? Anyone that can help or has some for sale please feel free to let me know.
300 brackets are the same as the 360/390 brackets, and taller than the 351/302 brackets
The 351M has a different bellhousing pattern than the 351W.

These might work.
The ones that bolt to the frame. They came out of a 78 Ranchero for a 302. I don't know if they will work for you or not.

There is one set of brackets that will fit inline 6's and FE's with out P/S.
There is another set of brackets for 302's. You can also bolt a 289, 351W, and I believe a 351C to these brackets.
There is another set of brackets for FE's and inline 6's with or without P.S. This second set of brackets has a slight bend in the driver's side stand to allow for the power steering gear box.
There is another set of brackets for 460 that you can bolt a 429 to also.
I don't have a clue as to what a 351M or 400 use because I don't mess with those engines and prefer not to mess with a truck that they even sit in. The towers I have seen in the bone yards under 351M/400's look a lot like small block stands, and they probably are the exact same thing. How ever, I do not have personal experience to verify this. I would also be concerned with trying to use Ranchero stands in a truck. The Ranchero frame is a whole lot more like a car than it is a truck.
Dennis, If I round up good pictures of the different stands, do you think we could somehow add them up top with tips and tricks or something similar to avoid answering the same questions over and over and to give the swappers out there a visual on what they need?

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Actualy you can find them in 65's on up. My 73 originaly had a 240 with no P/S and it had the driver's side bracket without the extra bend. I had to change it to add P/S. I don't know what year they quit using the driver's side bracket with out the extra bend, but I know for a fact it was used until 73. The motor stands are interchangeable on the 65 up to 79's as far as 2 wheel drive trucks are concerned. I don't know much about 4 wheel drives. When it comes to 2 wheel drive trucks and motor stands, I've pretty much got it together. I went from a 240 to a 302 to a 390 to a 460 all in the same truck. I do not how ever have much experience with the 351M/400 because I don't have much use for that engine.
There were three 351's used in Fords. 351 windsor, 351 cleveland, and 351M. The only 351 used in 73 to 79 Ford trucks was the 351M. A cleveland was never used in a truck, and the windsor wasn't used until the early 80's. If your VIN number says a 351, then your truck was originaly equipped with a 351M. The 351 C and W both have the small block bell housing patern on the back of the block. The 351W has the big block patern. Measure accross the top 2 bolt holes of the engine that you pulled out, and I'll bet you'll find they are a little 7 inches apart. Before you go to making spacers, you need to find out for sure what you pulled out, and what your putting back in. There should be no need for spacers unless something is wrong. Where is the thermostat housing on both engines? block or intake?

Check your PM box also.

Count the intake manifold bolts on the motor you pulled out. It should have 16 bolts.
The engine your going back with will probably have 12.
Also, just for grins, check the VIN number. The 4th digit will be A or J for 460, and H for 351. With motor stands like you say you have, I'm certain you pulled a 460 out.

This is why I commented on it from the start

Let me guess Vin# letter for engine is H which means 351 in which would normally be the 351M
The E series however could have a 351W since the engine is listed for 78 trucks/Vans
I'll get you pics for the 351M/400 for you.
