Cleaned up heads...

I hear of guys decking their heads to boost the compression ratio in their engine. However, I've been wondering if you just took your heads in to a machine shop and they just checked them out and cleaned them up, typically, how much is taken off? Nothing special, other than you're just doing a complete engine rebuild. I'm sure it depends on the shape the heads are in, but I was wondering, in general, if anyone knows how much that would be

Normally it is 0.004-0.010". The block is generally surfaced the same amount.

The maximum head cutting is limited to 0.060" which really does not raise the compression that much. It is generally not worth the effort.
