high idle?

high idle?
my 77 f150(money pit/wiring disaster) has a 351m with a 4 barel intake and carb swapped on and the idle seems too high but when i start it and put it in gear it dies so i have to lightly hold the brake put it in gear and kind of take off real quick or it will die. any suggestions?

First check for vacuum leaks. Check all the hoses for cracks, replace any that are cracked, hard or brittle. Use carb cleaner with engine running spray around base of carb and where intake meets head - if motor revs, there is a leak. Also check the timing. Let us know what you find.

sounds like a vacume leak..get yourself some carb cleaner spray and spray it around the carb and intake manifold to see if it changes the idle.also check your vacume hoses...most of the time if you changed intake manifold and carb the intake will be the problem..so my holley carb pamphlet says.a vacume leak will cause high idle.then you should be able to adjust the choke and idle..good luck..let us know what happens
