Is it worth it?

I had a front blow out on my Firestones the other day so I had to put the spare on which has never touched ground. I decided it was time for the 285's so before I went and bought them I measured the 265 on the front. The static loaded radius of the 285's is a 1/4" higher, {15-1/4" to 15-1/2"} and the on truck diameter is .800 taller with the 285's. My question is, is it worth the $98-$102 {dealer quotes} to get the speedometer adjusted? Do they put in a generic number for the revolution's per mile or do they actually measure by chalking the distance to figure actual circumference? The tire manufacture for my 285's says 628 rev's per mile. Does anybody know what the number is in the computer for the factory 265's?
Thanks, Antelope V-10

To my knowledge they do not measure the tire, they have pre set values for all the tire options on superdutys.

To tell you the truth, when I had my 265's it always read 1-2 mph faster than i was actually going. When I added the 285's, the speedo was right on.

I would leave it alone. The truck has been recording more miles than actually traveled w/ the 265s, the 285s should correct it.

I agree with all above.
With 265's at 30 mph I show 1.3 mph faster, at 70 I show 2.2 mph faster.
285's will do fine.

That should ease your mind, keep your money, the stealer already has enough.

This may be obvious, but before you spend the money on recalibrating, maybe you could use (borrow) a handheld GPS to measure your speed and compare it to your speedometer. Like the fella said, maybe it will be spot on with the 285's.

It's up to you whether to correct any difference, but personally, I wouldn't worry much about whether I was going 70 or 72. Or if I had 100,000 miles or 103,000 miles on my truck. I guess you don't want to be speeding, though. But in the grand scheme of life, knowing our exact speed is really not that important (to me)

Antelope, 265's are roughly 650 revs/mile while 285's are around 630

Thanks guys on the speedo, what about ABS and tranny shifitng? I kind of like the way it comes out of OD with less pedal pressure/travel now.
