No, the VIN doesn't indicate options like this. But there is a plate that shows the factory-installed options. I think it's in the doorsill (rode my bike today, so I'm not sure).

No. The VIN will not contain a code to indicate a tow package. On the '04 the trailer connector should have 7-pin circular electrical connection, plus a 4 pin vertical connector immediately to the drivers side of the circular connector. If you have been able to retrieve the window sticker the tow package will be reflected on the sticker.
