IAC motor to some parts stores is the same thing as IAC valve. Just get a visual on it before you pay to make sure it is the right one. Usually they are cheaper cause their parts are remanufactured. I found mine at Autozone for $70 new. $82 is not a bad price from the dealer...and you know its new. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hey Billybob69, I went to lunch with my wife and I told her your screen name cause we were chatin about the truck and what part I have to buy for it, and she was wondering if you got your name from the varsity blues movie? Anyway I drove the truck to lunch and it is about 90 here today and I drove the heck out of it got back to the shop where I work and no more howling noise, i wonder if the cleaner worked its magic over night? The good news is I talked to my buddy at the ford store and I am picking up the IAC valve tomarrow and he told the parts guy I was his brother in-law so hopefully that $89.25 will go down a little. I will let everyone know how it works out, I will be back online Monday to let you know.

I forgot about that movie...good one too. Actually I was raised in the sticks in Missouri and now I live in the city, (aurora), and work on computers. So everyone at work and my gf at home give me crap cause I still run around with my boots and hat on..even at work. I still work with horses and am dying to get out out in the stick again. When we go out on the lake....I still wear my hat with my shorts on the boat. guess somethings never die. So they all call me Billy Bob, (first name Bill anyway), the 69...well....good number! I'll let you figure that one out!

Well, everything so far went great on the IAC valve change. Went to the dealer on Saturday morning and got the part from my "Brother-in-Law" !!!! yeh right. I got the IAC valve for $60 instead of $89.25. It wasn't to bad of an install because I am about 6' 8" tall so leaning over the fender isn't that bad. I suggest a milk crate for anyone under 6' 8". As we all know remove the 5.4 cover 3-10mm bolts oh yeh disconnect the neg. battery cable I think it was 3/8 and then go for the IAC valve, which is right under the fire wall on top of the intake, Billybob69 was right on. The IAC valve is held on with 2-8mm bolts and then the connector. I suggest engine being cool <- I through this in cause you never know! Thanks Forum for all the help and you too Billybob, drove all weekend and no problems yet.

Fxxer.

Good to hear you are back up and running again. We may cuss, kick and want to blow up our trucks sometimes but when they are still running strong after 200k + miles....and our friends are trying to find another truck cause their Cheby or dodge bit the dust....it makes it all worth while.

6'8" ???? Holy crap Wilt Chamberlain.....I'm gonna call you over to work on mine when it comes time. Sheesh. I'm only 5'10" so I definately need the crate when I dig in under the hood.

6' 8" that's why the 2000 ranger super cab only lasted till 01' when the F-150 supercrew came out I traded the 00' ranger for a 2wd lariat supercrew and loved the room but I missed the 4 wheel drive I had on the ranger so I traded to the 03' FX4 supercrew, no leather this time cause the dog, not my wife

I actually cleaned tha IAC this winter because I was having problems with cold weather starts, and it fixed the problem. Do you guys suppose its bad now, not allowing me to get fuel? The check engine light is always on, then when it starts running ruff it flashes. Also I have noticed the last two weeks everytime I get gas, (fuel up) it will hardly pump into tank. I have to put it in very slow, or the pump shuts off like tank is full. Also today I was underneath, what is the Gizmo above front part of spare tire with hoses running from it??? thx!! 97f150 4.6 L kdbbgreenwood@juno.com

I don't think that the IAC valve would cause problems in the tank, especially once you remove the gas cap all the pressure is releved,
So will the valve cause the problem? My understanding of the valve is it allows air in to the intake so it can idle properly.
Infact the more I think about it it has nothing at all todo with the tank or fuel only vaccum. HMMMMMM

Also I used to notice a noise, air releasing around fuel cap.....but not since its started running bad ( missing). I ran the codes at Auto Zone once, before it started missing..they told me bad fuel cap, so I bought a new one......but since then has gotten a lot worse expecially on hills or if I TRY to pull something.

It really sounds like a fuel problem to me, have you done a fuel pressur check yet? BUT id does not, a bad fuel pump would not cause the gas filling problem you are having. It really sounds like a blockage some where in the fuel system. I could be totaly wrong but I don't think so. Unless someone else know something else. When I worked in belgium some autos had the same problem and it ended up being a clogged return line back to the tank or one of thoes lines in that area.

yes, but when you remove the gas cap it should vent anyway, I am trying to figure out why you can't fill the tank at reg speed. It could be in that area but something is not right. Anybody else with any ideas?

Kent, another thread just started about a a fualty gas cap. it is titled something about a spare tire. the fuel evap system is there and maybe that could cause aproblem???? any way maybe if you follow it it may provide the answer.

Didn't you say that your problem started with a code for a fualty gas cap. I will follow nice info to know.
