You remove the radio center by opening the ashtray/holder and pulling out on the bottom, then working up and down it. It's held in by eight white FIRM clips. protect the passenger side with a towel as you can scar it with the sharp ends of the clips. The wires can be removed by simple clips, if you need to actually remove the center from the truck. If not, just let it hang on the wires if all you need is to get into the radio, climate control area.
The drivers side requires a 7mm socket, or nut driver. two at the bottom of the below the wheel kick pad, then unhook and remove it. It scratches easily, put it in a safe place. Lower the steering wheel. Remove the next two bolts, and the cowl comes up and towards you. It also scratches easy. I have never needed to remove the passenger side, but have seen posts saying it is easy.
I have had my cowling off three times, and the center piece out so many times I can not count them. The only noises I have 'added' by doing this is the occasional rustling sound from the yards of plastic sleeve I have added to the wires I have put under the dash. Even that seems to have stopped since the stuff shook down. About 1000 miles for that to happen. Sure, I could have taped it, but I didn't.
