You can get that with a 400, Do a rebuild if it has alot of miles on it, and put a new intake manifold with a 4v carb(600+cfm), cam, headers, and a free flowing exhaust. With these, what you want will be a given, the 400 has 300+ torque from stock, so with these mods, you can expect much more. I've heard that hp goes to 300-400.

Good luck with what ever you do,
Matt

Crack, you should be able get more torque out of the 400 and you'll be in your range for HP as well. I'm not really familiar with the 351W engines, but I would do the 400, if it were me. However, there are more parts available for a Windsor. But, what type of trans are you mating this engine to? Bellhousing patterns are deffinately different for the C6 between the two, and I would assume the same for a standard tranny. I guess there are other deciding factors. Decisions, decisions...

my dads friend had a clevelend that he draged with in his maverick and I could probably get the heads for semi cheaper than it would be to buy them new...dad was saying somethin liek 1500 forthe heads and intake or something, this could add some ***** to it. Oh, and apparently the people who owned this bronco with the 400 before me did a rebuild, wich I think is true consideringthi is a small town and everyone knows everyone and ive been told thata coupletimes, andyou can hear the different cam in it aswell.

hey,it sounds like you have a great setup with that 400. my qustion is does anybody have any thoughts on the 400 engine that is being sold on e-bay for around 3 grand, with the aussie heads and balancing(4oohp)? i have a 77 f-250 with a tired 351m and it seems to me that if i'm going to spend around 3000 to have mine rebuilt, that would be the way to go,they even offer free shipping!thanx

You're getting a high compression 400 built the way FoMoCo should have built them back in the 70s before getting beat senseless by the smog ****'s. I'd find out what kind of pistons they used & camshaft specs before I bid on it. Also remember that unless the block has been decked you still have the problem of too much space above the piston to get any kind of quench even with the Aussie heads.

Frankly I think you'd be better off looking at the 400 that Tim Meyer built. He ripped off just under 400 HP and 450# TQ on 87 octane pump gas. It is for sale:

I've checked over the ebay motor pretty close and I'm not sure the exhaust seats are hardened and they didn't carilfy. Many of the oz heads are older than the need for hardened exhaust seats so that is an important issue to clarify.

I've got most of my parts together for a roller cam/lifter build that will be over 3.5K but thats including extra's like oil coolers etc.

If you are going to build a 400 there are a lot of cool things you can do to them and I think they will take out A WINDSOR dollar for dollar even with our shortage of parts and that is because it's a stroked cleveland- add some hi-po parts from the 4v line and these motors will breath asphault and sh%t bowties. Or just add a few economy upgrades of an rv sort and get 330+hp and 420ftlbs where they are best used- what a motor. Can't wait to put mine together and see what it will do both in performance and economy.

cause.......

I love seeing bowties fall to the ground. Kind of reminds me of a quiet snowfall.

crack,,, the intake off the cleveland will not work on the 400. Spacers are needed and are hard to find, plus a pain to use

The Cleveland 4V heads will bolt up but the low end torque will be gone. The stock 400 heads are basically Cleveland 2V heads and they flow really well. A spacer will be needed for the intake. Thee 400 deck is about an inch taller than the 351C.

The timing on all smog 351M/400's is 4 degrees retarded.

If you plan on RPM's above 6,000 modify a stock distributer or get an aftermarket one. I cracked all 16 skirts, I ran mine HARD, because of too much timing at high RPM's.
