work car

I know this is not a truck but this runs a little cheaper and rather put miles on this than the truck considering 60 miles a day to work. I want to put a spare cd player i have in my work car 87 mercury sable with premium sound. i have the conectors out a old truck i had, but can't figure out the wire colors.i can get the radio to turn on but no sound the black plug has only five wires, and the speakers work because the factory radio still works fine. can any body help me
thanks in advance

How many wires do you have coming out of the stock wiring harness? If you can, I would buy an aftermarket wiring harness so you don't have to cut anything on the stock plug.

It sounds like you have the power hooked up properly, and the speaker wires are usually pretty easy to identify. They usually have one striped, one not, and next to each other of similar color.

I have not done an install on any older vehicles, but of the installs I have done, it is usually a fairly similar scenario...

Do you have a picture of the wires you are trying to work with?

Premium sound? Can't remember, but I believe it had amps, therefore different signals. Check out the wiring diagrams on http://installdr.com/Harnesses/Ford-Wiring.pdf

If connector look like middle one, then you'll need a amp bypass harness.
