On my buddies 2001 F-150, he has a button on his radio that says "rds", I believe. He told me that he pushed this button so that, when listening to the radio, in the text part of the head unit, it reads out the station name, song, etc provided by the radio staion, I guess. My question is, do our trucks have this ability because I have not seen that button on my trucks radio?
I have the Audiophile system. It does not have an "RDS" button but does display the station name, artist and name of song playing (rotates through the three).

how did you get this to happen on your 04-05 F-150? Under normal conditions, mine says 97.9Hz and the time.
I did not do anything to make it do this lilric, it just did it on its own. I guess it came set up that way from the factory. Sorry I can't be of some assistance to you. I have noticed that some stations don't "transmit" this data though. Maybe that is the problem with 97.9?
I think most of you do have RDS......what you have to do is turn on the key with the radio playing and hold down the Menu botton for seveal seconds....don't scroll through it like you usually would to change bass, treble, etc. but hold it down. Then your Traffic seek, and RDS options will come up. To adjust the RDS feature you need to use the CD up/down arrow buttons - not the seek buttons.
Took me the longest time to discover the RDS function on my '05 Mustang GT "Shaker 500" stereo - my Lincoln LS actually had an RDS button in the radio faceplate..........
