I have a 2000 F350 7.3 diesel and I am using shell synethic 5w-40w in my truck . My question is it ok to us it in the summer while towing a 5th wheel 35ft trailer? thanks for any help
I would think that running 5-40 would be great, the purpose is to keep the oil from breaking down, and you are at 40 weight. I have no first hand experience on towing, but I used to race a 4 banger and I ran 70 weight and I never experienced and oil failure or engine wear due to the extreme rpms I was doing.
But I'm interested in the others opinion here.
yes, it will be fine. i use 5-40 syn all year long. a 5-40 oil means that when cold it will have the same viscosity, and be no thicker than 5 weight oil at that temp. and when hot it has the same viscosity, and is no thinner than 40 weight at that temp.
