I whas thiking to do some upgrates to my truck
but i'm not sure what will help more :
Edelbrook performance intake & 4bll carb,
or
MSD-6S ignition system and a blaster coil,
this is for a '82 302, with headers, flow manster and K&N filter, 2 bll carb, the engine is in good shape, and is on an 87 big bronco, c6 3.55 gears
33x12.5 r15 tires.
what is better to do first, to get more power & millage?, i'm specting to do 1 thing now and do the other in about 6 months, thank's for any input.
The intake and 4V will definately give you more power. While you have the intake off, you could port match your intake, gasket, and heads. You also could do a little polishing of the ports to insure a smooth fuel flow. That would give you some cheap additional hp. There are a lot of people who feel the MSD does not add much to your hp, but I believe it is a great concept for multiple discharges to insure complete fuel burn and most NASCAR vehicles run MSD so it has got to be a pretty good product.
I've installed MSD 6A units into my '68 Mustang, '71 F-350 and '84 Bronco. I also installed hotter coils and better plugs and wires on all of them. The improvements include much easier cold weather starting, smoother idle and more power.
If you can only do one conversion at a time I would probably do the ignition first. While the intake and 4-bbl carb will yield more power, especially once you reach 3,000 RPM, you may gain enough improvement with the MSD/coil/plugs/wires to postpone the intake and carb swap.
If you do both swaps eventually, you will love your engine.
Perhaps also include a new RV style cam and lifters too.
