I alos posted this in the Bronco Section.

I've got a '92 Bronco with a 302 and AOD. It's my wife's daily driver and she loves it.

We will be getting a horse this spring. I have a '71 F-350 for the heavy-duty towing chores, but my wife would like to be able to use her Bronco to haul the horse, trailer & tack close to home for daily rides, with occasional trips into the mountains.

We have a 19’ stock trailer with dual wheels that weighs 2,000 pounds empty. Loaded with the horse and tack it will be between 4,000 and 5,000 pounds.

If I could I’d drop a 460 or 351 into her Bronco. However, we live in Northern California and changing engines would violate smog laws.

I’m considering supercharging her Bronco. I’m thinking of a Paxton, Vortec or Whipple centrifugal supercharger with about 6 pounds of boost and an air-to-air intercooler. The simple math states that a 302 with 6 pounds of boost is about the same as a 420 cubic inch motor. I know it’s not really the same as more cubic inches, but it will be close.

We’ll take the usual safety precautions, including sway control and electric brakes.

Has anyone out there supercharged their Bronco or Ford Truck? Does anyone use their Bronco or short wheel base truck to tow 5,000 pound trailers or boats? How do they perform?

Any comments are welcome.

Bruce
