Slight Knocking on Drive side in Engine
Hi All,
I have a 98 Explorer Sport and lately I have been hear a slight knocking on the driver side of my engine? Also my check engine light came on and I was wonder if the knocking would have anything to do with me needing a new ERG/DPFE sensor.

Yes, a non functioning EGR coule cause spark knock. The function of the EGR system is to recirculate some exhaust gas to reduce emmissions and while doing so this lowers cylinder temperature. If the cylinders get to hot the carbon deposits will glow red and can fire the air fuel mixture prematurely and give off the knock or ping on light to moderate acceleration.
