my F-150 is a custom with no air and that cab sure does get hot in the sun. im trying to go the lowest $ route for releif. i have looked on the net but i cant find a reasonabley priced portable air unit that would fit in a car. i have seen some swamp cooler type devices but those are usually over 300$. what about those old swmp coolers people used to put on thier windows that would force air into a tube and into the car. anyone know where i can pick one of those up? or should i bit the bullet and find someone to install factory air?
Where in CA do you live? If it's the desert, you MIGHT be able to mickey-mouse an evap cooler to work. The old tube-style had several drawbacks; you had to be moving for it to work, it didn't hold much water and you had to pull on a cord to keep the pad moist.
One of my boating catalogs has a 12V device that fits in a cooler full of ice and blows out cool air; if you're interested I'll get you the info.
im in the bayarea/norcal so the humidity is around 45% or so. dont know if those evap coolers would be more troubble than just getting real A/C installed. the truck is a 92(see sig)
Looks like the ones that use chilled water from an ice chest would work pretty well, if you have the room and 20# of ice/hour wouldn't be a problem; 45% humidity is too high for an evap cooler to work.
