Are there any aftermarket replacement handles for the inside sliding door handle? I have used everyone from every junkyard in my area, and still after a while my kids manage to strip the factory plastic handle out.
Be nice if there was a machined metal handle that wouldn't strip so easy.
I have the same problem with my boys stripping out the handle. They tend to use their feet on the handle to slam the door shut when I'm not in the van. This may be because the lower roller is wearing out and it has become harder for them to close the door by hand. Check your lower roller next time you have to replace the handle.
you can even use your o.e. handle and load it up with j.b. weld and make sure it sets well. i did this to mine and ive tried pulling as hard as i can and still nothing. does anyone have problems with the actual mechanism in the handle? mine has had problems since my friends pulled the outside and inside at the same time. i think it stripped somthing out. i took the rod off of the lever that leads to the rear of the door and then it worked fine for a week or so, but then it stopped again. i took the rod out, pulled on it a little and it worked fine again. now its so bad it wont do anything, no matter how much i tug on that rod.
yea, thats what i meant. but i was wondering how to fix it. i dont really see any way to take it out to fix or even replace it. anyone done this before?
Yes, I've replaced it on mine.
You will have to open the door and then you will see clearly how to remove it with 2 bolts (they may be a star type bit, I can't remember for sure) but its not very hard to do.
