Question Driveshaft swap question

Can I use a driveshaft from an 84 F150 and put it on my 51.
I have the transmission from the 84 and since I need the yoke
from the 84, I thought of going back to the yard and getting it. The
junk yard dealer said he would give me the driveshaft and yoke for $40.

Any concerns or things I need to concider???

You can probably modify it and use it. The chances of an 84 F-150 being exactly the same length as your 51 though is slim. If the wheelbases were identical it would probably work. The 48-52 F-1 is a 114 inch wheelbase. I have no idea what the 84 wheelbase is but it's probably longer. You could probably have the 84 driveshaft shortened by a driveline shop cheaper than having a new shaft made up. I have shortened a number of driveshafts myself with no problems....

so pretty much shortning it is the only concideration. What about the U-joint where the shaft connects to the "PUMPKIN"? Is that a standard size?

I think all the Ford nine inch rears have the same yoke on the pumpkin so the u-joints should be the same. If you are using something else then it may or may not fit...

Joe, make sure that shaft is the right length or longer than what you need. Modifications can get expensive when they are too short.

If you get the shaft home and the u-joint is not the same size you probably can still use it. They sell u-joints that are a different size one each end. We call them morfidite u-joints. The shop that shortens your shaft will have them. Personally, I would buy an extra one of these and throw it under the seat along with my extra fan belt and dizzy module box.
