Cree only sells in volume to major manufacturers. There are a number of suppliers (check the ads in Street Rodder magazine) That have boards to fit a number of popular taillights, "universal" array boards of many different sizes and configurations and will make custom arrays. They have some 3rd brake light and strip taillite arrays that can have the functions programmed in and way you want, with thick acrylic lenses so you can flush mount them and sand them to match the panel contour. They are bright enough they claim that you can shoot a coat of color over them so they disappear until they light up and show right thru the paint!
I was thinking about grafting a light bar (stoplight) display on the top, inside of my rear window, and feed it thru the headliner, so I won't have any drilling/cutting to do.

There is a unit like that made that mounts similar to and resembles a long thin rearview mirror but in the back window.
I'll have to check what's available retail. I haven't checked for a year or so. I've got half of a '68 Firebird tail light frenched into either side of my roll pan. There are two red sections, ~1" X 4.5" and a clear section in the middle for B/U lights. I would like to go with LED's because the enclosure is very small and I'm afraid it will overheat and damage the lense, or catch the whole thing on fire!
Thanks for the suggestion.
It occured to me yesterday that I should put amber LED's in my front turn signals; the '51 - '52 fronts are a real PITA, and they are off and apart at the moment. I have been unable to find any that will fit and are "dual filament" (1157 or 357) except in Red. 1157 is a brake light bulb so I'm not surprised.
AX -- tghanks for the link, I'll give them a shot.

go to www.yearwood.com and search on led 1157.
They carry direct 1157 replacement LED arrays in red: bright, super bright, and ultra bright; as well as amber in bright and super bright! @ $8, 10, and 15.00 each respectively they are easily affordable as well. I'm ordering a pair for the trailer tomorrow!
You can edit it within an hour and change the text to read something like "Post error - deleted". The other option is to ask the forum moderator to remove it, but unless it's a major boo boo, it's usually not worth the effort to have it removed as it might take a while.
I used white LED dual element on both the front and rear stock tail lights and running/turn signals. I lighted them up and they were plenty bright. I wouldn't use halogen as they get way too hot. Actually saw a $300 tail light lenses on an Acura melted from them.
I could have sworn that I read somewhere that colored bulbs were illegal. That the color was supposed to come from the lens. I know that I have seen colored bulbs marked on the package "for off road use only". Don't recall if that was halogen or LED though.
Perhaps this is all just a verbalization of a "senior moment".
Have to see if your state's DOT has different laws than fed guidelines, but fed say all forward facing lights must be white or amber, rearward facing lights must be red or amber. I don't think they differentiate between the bulb color or the lens color. I really doubt any cop is going to make you pull out your taillight bulb to see if they are white or red.
I realized this AM I can't use the replacement led array in my trailer the bulb socket faces sideways instead of towards the rear.
I recently scrounged a really cool set of tail light housings from a late 40's chrysler that I think I will adapt to my F1. The lenses are glass and rather thick so I bet that a stock bulb would be a bit dim. I think that these LEDs might be just the ticket when the time comes.
As AlbuqF1 can attest to, New Mexico drivers are not exactly the cream of the crop. I probably see 3 -5 rearend accidents a week in this town
