alright guys, i dont know much about transmissions here so i might look like an idoit but i just put new motor in my 86 f250, 351w, and converted it to 93 mustang sequential fire, mass air fuel injection, the next project is gonna be rebuilding an aod trans for it. i dont have the cash for the wide ratio gear set but i heard all the aode's have that. is there any way of taking an aode and putting an aod valve body in it, or switching the gearsets?
I HAVE A STROKED 351W WITH AN AOD BEHIND IT. THAT AOD (case) HAS GOT E70RW GUTS (American Transmission in OKC) IN IT ALONG WITH A VALVE BODY FROM LENTECH (Canada). THE LENTECH VALVE BODY HAS AN ELECTRONIC AOD ON/OFF.. AUTOMATIC SHIFTS SMOOTH AS BUTTER WITH LIGHT THROTTLE AND EXTREMELY FIRM & CRISP WITH MORE THROTTLE. IN MANUAL MODE, 1ST IS 1ST, 2ND IS 2ND, D IS 3RD AND THE ELECT. SHIFT TO 4TH. MANUAL SHIFTS CAN BE NOTHING SHORT OF SCARY BECAUSE THEY ARE EXTREMELY HARD AND HARSE TO DRIVETRAIN .
BE CAREFUL WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER TO FLYWHEEL SPACING WHEN PUTTING AOD BEHIND 351W MOTOR. THERE IS A 1/4" DIFFERENCE FROM A C-6 TO AOD AND WILL WIPEOUT A THRUST BEARING AND TRANNY BEARINGS IF NOT USING A SPACER. I HAD TO SHORTEN UP THE CONVERTER AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE AND HAND SELECT FLYWHEEL TO GET 1/16" CLEARANCE. WHEN I PUT IN THE STROKER, I MADE AN ALUMINUM .125 THICK SPACER THAT GAVE ME A GOOD .125 CLEARANCE.
